MONTREAL — Bombardier Inc. says its two updated Global business jets have received certification from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration.

The Montreal-based transportation company says the Global 5500 and Global 6500 obtained certification about three months after receiving certification from Transport Canada and European authorities.

Bombardier made a surprise unveiling of the two business jets in May 2018 at the European business aviation show Ebace, in Geneva and entered into service last September.

The Global 5500 and 6500, with list prices of US$46 million and US$56 million respectively, can travel further than older Global 5000 and 6000s while new Rolls-Royce engines are more fuel-efficient.

Bombardier also says the first Global 6500 aircraft has been delivered to launch customer HK Bellawings Jet Ltd. of Hong Kong, which signed a letter of intent to buy up to 18 Global 6500 and new Global 7500 aircraft.
